What is Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture?
Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture, also known as Cosmetic
Acupuncture or Acupuncture Facelift, is a virtually painless,
non-surgical method of reducing the signs of the aging process.
Although it is often referred to as a facelift, the benefits are
much more than just cosmetic. It is a rejuvenation and
revitalization process designed to help the whole body look and
feel younger. It is more than a cosmetic procedure in that it
improves the mind and body by building the individual from the
inside out.
| The
Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture treatment is based on the
principles of Oriental Medicine. It involves the insertion of
hair-thin needles into particular areas on the face, ears, neck,
hands, arms, trunk, legs, and feet along specific energetic
pathways (meridians) to balance the individual’s Qi (pronounced
chee) or energy. Specific points along these meridians
are needled based on the individual’s health issues at the time
of treatment. |
Thousands of years ago, the Chinese discovered that many
meridians either begin or end on the face or have an internal
branch that connects to areas of the face. Doctors of Oriental
Medicine practicing Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture know how to
revitalize the face while simultaneously resolving the
underlying factors that contribute to the aging process.
What are the effects?
|
 |
Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture may erase as many as
five to fifteen years from the face with results
apparent after just a few treatments. Jowls and
double chins can be firmed up. Fine facial lines
can be eliminated and deeper wrinkles can be reduced.
Eyelids and eyebrows can be lifted, puffiness can be
eliminated, and bags under the eyes can be reduced. |
|
Local blood
and lymph circulation is increased bringing moisture and a glow
to the skin. Age spots can be reduced or eliminated. Collagen
production is increased helping with muscle tone and skin
tightness. Pores can be tightened to look smaller. Hormonal
balance is achieved to help improve acne. Stress, which shows
on the face, fades away. The entire body is worked on to bring
it into balance. Patients report the feel of energy running
through their body and an uplifting feeling of the mind, body,
and emotions. And, of course, they report firmer and younger
looking skin.
|
Who would benefit from Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture?
| Anyone concerned with looking and feeling younger and slowing
down the aging process is a candidate. Anyone who wishes to
improve his or her physical and emotional health in addition to
looking better would benefit. Anyone with sagging, puffiness,
wrinkles, drooping eyelids, double chin, acne, or dry skin would
gain from Facial Rejuvenation. |
Facial Rejuvenation is far less costly than cosmetic surgery and
is safe, virtually painless, and has no side effects or risk of
disfigurement. There is no extended recovery period with
swelling and discoloration, nor is there trauma. While Facial
Rejuvenation cannot reshape the bones of the face, it can take
years off the face in a safe and natural way while improving
your overall health.
As
with any procedure, some patients may have contraindications
such as pregnancy, high blood pressure, or serious illness.
Your Doctor of Oriental Medicine can discuss any concerns with
you.
Does it really make a difference?
Acupuncture, which has been around for thousands of years, has
survived the test of time. The use of acupuncture in
Cosmetology, especially in preventing and reducing wrinkles, has
already attracted great attention in Japan, Hong Kong, and
Sweden.
A
1996 report in the International Journal of Clinical Acupuncture
reported that among 300 cases treated with Facial Acupuncture,
90% had marked effects with one course of treatment. The
effects included improvement of the elasticity of facial
muscles, reduction of wrinkles, a brighter complexion, and
overall rejuvenation (not just confined to the face).
What is a treatment course?
A
course is between 10 and 15 treatments, with the average being
12. The effects become most noticeable and lasting on or about
the 7th session. Each person responds differently,
depending on condition and lifestyle prior to treatment.
Following the initial course of treatment, monthly maintenance
sessions can prolong the results for five to ten years.
Who administers Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture?
The
treatment should be performed by a Doctor of Oriental Medicine
with training in the specialization of Facial Rejuvenation
Acupuncture. Not many acupuncturists are specifically trained
in this procedure. Kathleen Mathews is a licensed Doctor of
Oriental Medicine, a Diplomate in Oriental Medicine,
Acupuncture, and Chinese Herbs (NCCAOM), and has been trained in
Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture by Virginia Doran. Please see
Ms. Doran’s referral list at
www.luminousbeauty.com/referrals.html.
As
a licensed D.O.M., Kathleen has demonstrated proficiency in the
strict procedures for equipment sterilization. In order to
assure your complete confidence, the finest pre-sterilized,
disposable needles are used.
