Dr. Kathleen Mathews earned her Master’s Degree in Oriental Medicine from Southwest Acupuncture College. The four-year program consisted of over 3000 hours of training in acupuncture, herbal medicine, tuina, nutrition and exercise therapy.

She has passed both the Acupuncture and Herbal exams of the National Commission for the Certification of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM), and has been granted the national accreditation titles Diplomate in Acupuncture, Diplomate in Chinese Herbology, and Diplomate in Oriental Medicine (#020984).

She has additionally passed the New Mexico State Board Exam and is a licensed Doctor of Oriental Medicine (#835).

Dr. Mathews has continued her education by attending hundreds of hours of seminars including studying with Susan Johnson, an esteemed teacher of Master Tung’s Magic Points, a potent system of acupuncture handed down as a treasured family secret for generations and made public by Master Tung Ching Chang.

She has attended lectures given by Jeffrey Yuen, who comes from two Daoist lineages. He is an 88th generation Daoist master of the Yu Qing Huang Lao Pai (Jade Purity Yellow Emperor Lao Zi School) and a 26th generation Daoist Master of the Quan Zhen Long men Pai (Complete Reality Dragon Gate School).

Instructors for infertility seminars include Jane Lyttleton, Brandon Horn, Wendy Yu, and Bob Damone (male infertility).

Dr. Mathews is certified in Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture. Her educational instructors include Virginia Doran, Mary Elizabeth Wakefield, Dr Song Jeong Hwa, and Barbara Berger. Dr. Mathews provides personalized treatment based on a combination of techniques learned from her instructors.

Dr. Mathews is a Board Member on the New Mexico Society for Acupuncture and Asian Medicine.

Dr. Mathews uses Seirin needles, the Japanese brand most acupuncturists prefer. She prescribes Chinese herbal formulas processed by American companies that have tested their products for quality and safety and that follow FDA-established, current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs). Testing includes checking for heavy metals, pesticides, and bacterias.
